Onika Maraj was born on December 8, 1984. She was raised and grew up in the rough street of Southside Jamaica Queens, New York. From the start Onika knew she was destined to be something amazing. She was not awarded with a glamorous life in her childhood years and that’s what motivated her to strive for even greater success. With an absent and on drugs father and a single and struggle mother Maraj began to demand more out of life. Despite the environment she was raised in Onika attended school on the regular from the traditional elementary, middle and high school settings. She attended LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, New York where her addiction and love struck passion for singing and acting began to arise.
She began to study the study as the played hand in hand with one another as far as technique and performance is concerned. Moving forward she graduated from LaGuardia High and progressed to be an administrative assistant and dedicated all of her leisure time to learning the works of the music industry so that she can set up the foundation to her potential music career.

Her music career took a leap where she started off as a background singer for hooks and vocals for local rappers. Onika wasn’t satisfied with this effort to make it big so she moved on to "stand out" more. Maraj began writing her own raps. Later becoming one of the members in a small female group she gained little but no recognition so left that group in 2006. After the putting her music and lyrics out and making it known, she was later recognized on MySpace by Dirt Money CEO Fendi who signed her on his music label and his "come up" DVD.
Just as things started to rise for Onika she was then noticed by the well known and successful rapper Lil Wayne and that’s when Onika Maraj got her big start. Onika Maraj was no longer, she transformed into a bigger and better person letting her show name or alter ego is "Nicki Minaj". And the success flew and reached out to millions of fans in a matter of minutes. Nicki is now known for her different style of rapping and her ability to write full on her own material.

This is interesting because I have heard a lot of crap being talked about her. It nice to see that she rose out of a bad situation and made the best of it by becoming successful. It seems like Nicki Minaj his her alter ego or something because she totally dresses different compared to Onika Minaj. I didn't know she was born in queens, I was too so she is pretty B.A in my book.
ReplyDeleteI love Nicki Minaj! Probably one of my favorite artists. She puts a twist on all of the songs she is featured in and I love her music. It's cool to hear about the other side of her and her childhood. How crazy that must have been for her as a child, but it's cool to see who she has become and how she overcame struggles.
ReplyDeleteSo at firts i didn't like nikki minaj and i still have mixed feelings about her. i feel that all she is doing is copying Trina, by calling herself barbie. Not only that but her styles come off of Lil Kim. Don't get me wrong i love her lyrics because they are hers and she can spit better than any of the guys i know. but i would definantly like her more if she was more of herself.
ReplyDeleteI have recently find out about Nicki Minaj's new songs and I really like them. She wrote a song about the people that do not like her and it's really nice because she doesn't let there comments stop her from achieving success. She also has one with Sean Kingston and it has more of a Jamaican tone in it. I think there collaboration (it's called letting go) was really good because they're representing there hometown and of course the song is really good. And I love Nicki's verse on the song. You have to hear it for yourself to know.
ReplyDeleteFirst off I would like to point out that you are completly taking bakk by Nicki. ok but I believe that this article help people to see where the inspritation of many artist come from. Rappers life 50cent, The Game, and Biggie Smalls all came from the same background as Nicki. Struggled as children, and a life of hardknocks, and to see the determination these people have to make it in life is truely astounding. Also I learned a lot about Nicki from this article, I had no ides this sister was on the path of a college student. She sure has changed with the years.
ReplyDeletePersonally Nicki is not my favorite artist I do not understand what she is saying in most of her songs, but I do like some of them. Like “Your Love” and the song she has with Gyptian called “hold yuh” it’s awesome.
ReplyDelete“I love Nicki Minaj, I told her I’d admit it, I hope one day we get married just to say we f-cking did it, And girl I’m f-cking serious I’m with it if you with it, Cause your verses turn me on and your pants are mighty fitted” ~DRAKE
